My Story
Love what you do. As a teenager, I was on a mission to find a career that I loved. I instinctively knew it needed to leverage my strengths, offer plenty of variety and help me fulfill my life purpose of bringing about positive change in the world. So at the young age of 14 I spent my free time writing away to colleges for course calendars (before the internet!) and exploring potential careers - fashion designer, sports psychologist, journalist and many more. In university, I joined clubs and studied a broad range of topics. Ultimately, it was through a volunteer role that I discovered a passion for engaging and coordinating volunteers. I also found a profession that met all my criteria and one that afforded me the opportunity to continually learn and grow. It was at a volunteer management conference that I won the opportunity to participate in a 2.5 day coaching fundamentals course. It's hard to describe but something magical happened at that course. An inner fire was sparked and a new passion emerged...helping others connect to their life purpose and find a meaningful career that makes them excited to go to work each day. Career coaching gives me the opportunity to champion others, and help build their confidence, enhance their leadership abilities, raise their professional profiles and achieve career success.
But the career coaching, is only one side of the story...
Be the leading lady of your own life. Before I became a coach, my personal life was in a deep rut. My dating life was non existant, I spent most nights miserable at home, and I felt isolated from friends who were moving forward with their lives...getting married, having babies, travelling. It was the same old refrain and I didn't know how to change the tune. My milestones weren't really mine at all, they were actually my roles in other people's stories. As Arthur says to Iris in the movie The Holiday, "You, I can tell, are a leading lady, but for some reason you are acting like the best friend." One day, after watching this movie for the millionth time, that line resonated deeply with me and a switch seemed to flip! I knew then that I needed to take charge of my life and create the change I wanted to see. Coaching gave me the tools, encouragement and guidance on how to go about transforming my mindset, my patterns and ultimately my life. Now, I want to encourage others to step into the spotlight and write their own life story...one that is sweeter, richer and more fulfilling than their wildest dreams - or even a Hollywood movie!
